Japan sells a large volume of well-maintained used vehicles, most of them through dealer-only auctions that overseas buyers cannot access directly. FOCUS, based in Osaka, sources vehicles and parts to your specification, checks condition before purchase, completes the Japanese export procedure and books shipping from a Japanese port.

We quote one vehicle or a small batch at a time, with the price broken down so you can see the vehicle cost, Japanese fees and freight separately.

What we check before you pay

  • Destination import rules: many countries limit vehicle age, require right-hand-drive approval or set emissions standards. We check these before searching.
  • Auction condition reports and photos, translated into plain English for you.
  • Whether a pre-shipment inspection is required for your destination, and booking it if so.
  • The Japanese export certificate (export deregistration) needed to clear the vehicle out of Japan.
  • The full cost: vehicle, auction and dealer fees, inland transport, export documents and freight, quoted separately.

How a sourcing request works

  1. Send your requirement

    Product, specification, quantity, destination and target date. A short message is fine to start.

  2. We confirm the fit

    Within one to two business days we tell you whether we can pursue it, and what else we need.

  3. Supplier search and quotation

    We contact suppliers in Japanese and return a quotation with product, Japanese costs and freight shown separately. Typically one to three weeks.

  4. Order, inspection and shipping

    Payment and delivery terms are agreed in writing first. We then order, check the goods, prepare export documents and ship.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy a used car from Japan as an overseas buyer?
Yes, through an exporter. Most Japanese used cars are sold at dealer-only auctions, so an exporter in Japan such as FOCUS buys on your behalf, completes the export deregistration and ships the vehicle.
Which ports do you ship from?
Usually from the Osaka and Kobe area, and from other Japanese ports when that suits the vehicle's location or the shipping schedule.
RoRo or container — which is better?
RoRo is usually cheaper for a single drivable vehicle. A container suits multiple vehicles, non-running vehicles or vehicles shipped with parts. We quote the option that suits your shipment.
How long does it take?
Finding and buying a suitable vehicle typically takes one to three weeks. Export paperwork and the wait for a vessel add time, and sailing schedules vary by destination.
Do you export to my country?
We focus on buyers in the Middle East, South Asia and North America, and handle other destinations on request. Each country's import rules are checked before we search.
